Recently we got an inquiry from a building owner about controlling his building. He told us he had Carrier Comfort Network Controls. We asked if he knew what generation or could he describe what the controls looked like. He said it was the latest version. His complaint was that anything he wanted adjusted or changed required a call to his service company. The service company would dispatch a tech to make the changes with his laptop. The building owner wanted to know if there was an easier way for him to gain access to the system himself. The simple answer is is Carrier's i-Vu. The other answer would be dial-up. Dial-up, however would require software and an access key. The training would be fairly significant and would require his service company to also have access and probably charge him for the service. i-Vu on the other hand is graphical. No software, no key. Access anywhere you can get on the internet. On our i-Vu installations we contact our graphics guru, Joe Watson of Custom Control Graphics, to customize floor plans. The result is when our customer opens the first page of his i-Vu, he can instantly trouble shoot his facility. Colored indicators show him the condition in every zone. If the zone looks off, he or she clicks on it and it opens to the piece of equipment and shows graphically how the unit is performing. Training with i-Vu is a breeze. Within an hour, the customer can scan and change setpoints, schedules and even trend an area. The device is a little pricey, but the benefits pay for it quickly.
